"It is tapped!" is what that phrase means in the old Bavarian dialect. At noon on the Second last Saturday of September, Munich's Lord Mayor taps the first keg in the Schottenhammel tent (Spaten Bier) and then he yells "O' Zapft is!" Until then no other Bier is allowed to flow at any tent on the fairgrounds. But once that tap is struck, the Bier seemingly never stops for the next 16 days.
Tomorrow is the first day of Munich's Oktoberfest and it will continue every day through Sunday Oktober 6th. Follow us here every day for the next 16 days to learn more about Oktoberfest.
And if you can't make it to Munich this year (or even if you can), visit the Bavarian Bierhaus at Opry Mills from September 27th through Oktober 25th and at our Fest Tent at the Nashville Oktoberfest from Oktober 10-13.
